Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't have a gun? Can I still learn?

Absolutely. The only prerequisite to the beginning coursework is that you have to be legally able to purchase a firearm in California in order for us to transition you to a real pistol at the range.

What if I'm just too scared to shoot?

There are many steps we take, including fake and/or replica firearms to help with your familiarity. Shooting a laser (dot) helps to coordinate your feel to your aim.  And from there we can transition to CO2 pistols that, again, feel real, but shoot air and cycle the action. When the time comes to put a hole in paper at the range, we start all students with the most humble of firearms, the .22 pistol.  It's always at your pace.

Can I bring my own gun?

Probably, but there are some questions to answer.  For example, if its appearance causes us reason to worry (antique, rusted, or other curio), we may stick to the ones we provide. Also, there are large calibers that are less suitable for learning. Our goal, though, is to help you become safe, confident, and competent at using a pistol. If needed, we can refer you to a gunsmith should you want a professional cleaning and assessment of its safe operability.

What kind of certification can I achieve?

There are two paths of instruction. Our NRA Certified Instructors offer a variety of courses that will provide you with NRA certification. These include, Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, and Personal Protection in the Home (Requires Basic Pistol).

Alternatively, APEX offers a concierge approach at teaching one-on-one or one-on-two instruction with a customizable approach. These are not NRA Certification classes.

The goal of both is identical, to teach you safe handling, storage, competence in shooting.

What is your policy on refunds & cancellations?

Firearm training classes are non-refundable.

Individual Instructors may offer partial refunds prior to the start of the session. This must be in writing and specify the amount to be refunded if canceled 24 hours prior to the start of the first meeting. As a general rule, advance booking fees for classroom and range time use vary between $40 to $80 per person and are non-refundable.

Where will we shoot?

There are two options available, indoor and outdoor. Our indoor options reside within Orange County, whereas our Outdoor option is in the county of Riverside. Further details will be arranged depending on the convenience of the student, projected wait times, and, or course, the weather.
